ACE Fair 2025 in Gwangju: Celebrating 20 Years of Creativity, Indian Talent, and Global Partnerships

ACE Fair 2025 in Gwangju, South Korea, marked a special milestone—20 years of being Asia’s leading hub for creative industries. Over two decades, the event has grown into a powerful platform for animation, VFX, motion films, and content distribution, connecting creators from every corner of the globe.

This year, I, Krishna, alongside Vijay, had the opportunity to join the celebrations, engage with global creators, and explore how cross-border collaboration is shaping the next 20 years of creative storytelling. Thanks to our interpreter, Ms. Ta Young, we could go beyond casual conversations and enter meaningful business discussions—including 3D co-production partnerships, 3D animation outsourcing, and 2D animation outsourcing opportunities.

Ace Fair on 2025

ACE Fair: A Global Hub of Animation and Creativity

The fair brought together animation studios, VFX innovators, motion film producers, and distributors. The pavilions showcased how different regions are innovating, while also opening doors for cross-border partnerships.

From high-tech VFX demonstrations to the rise of Southeast Asian digital storytelling, ACE Fair highlighted a clear truth: the future of entertainment lies in collaboration, technology, and authentic cultural narratives.

Meeting Global Designers, Artists, and VFX Innovators

Some of the most valuable moments came from conversations with:

  • Animators using AI-driven workflows to speed up production while retaining emotional depth.
  • VFX specialists delivering projects that match Hollywood benchmarks.
  • Distributors exploring global co-productions and OTT-first content models.

It was striking how independent creators are now competing with established studios, leveraging digital tools to bring passion projects to life. This democratization of creativity is reshaping the industry.

The Indian Advantage: More Than Just Cost

While many countries showcased their creative strengths, I was reminded of the growing reputation of Indian 3D animators. For years, India has been seen as a cost-efficient outsourcing hub, but that narrative is changing fast.

Today, Indian animation studios are not only cost-competitive but also delivering world-class quality, creative originality, and technical precision. From Hollywood co-productions to gaming and AR/VR content, Indian animators are proving that they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world.

This positions India as a strategic partner in global collaborations—offering scalability, innovation, storytelling depth, and the ability to successfully close projects, not just affordability.

Closing Deals: From Co-Productions to Outsourcing

ACE Fair 2025 was not just about exploring trends—it was also about discussing business opportunities. Some of the key deal conversations included:

  • 3D Animation Co-Production Discussions – exploring partnerships where Indian studios could jointly develop IPs with international creators, blending cultural stories with cutting-edge technology.
  • 3D Animation Outsourcing – highlighting India’s strength in delivering high-quality 3D work for global projects at scale, with both technical precision and creative depth.
  • 2D Animation Outsourcing – identifying opportunities to support studios seeking cost-efficient but high-quality 2D animation pipelines for TV series, ads, and streaming content.

These discussions were well-received, as many global partners now see India not just as a production hub, but as a creative collaborator capable of contributing to the story, style, and execution.

Southeast Asia’s Growing Influence

A strong focus at ACE Fair 2025 was on Southeast Asia, which is emerging as a creative powerhouse. Countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines are producing culturally rich stories with modern animation techniques, appealing to both regional and global audiences.

This mirrors India’s journey and opens opportunities for cross-Asian collaboration where shared cultural narratives can find international recognition.

Breaking Language Barriers: Thanks to Ta Young

Networking at such a global event can be challenging without the right support. Our interpreter, Ta Young, played a crucial role by translating Korean to English with precision and cultural sensitivity.

This not only made conversations smoother but also allowed us to build authentic connections with Korean artists and distributors, many of whom appreciated the clarity of exchange. It also helped us in negotiating co-production discussions and outsourcing deals with greater confidence.

Key Trends from ACE Fair 2025

Several themes emerged consistently across discussions and showcases:

  1. Technology is Mainstream: AI, AR/VR, and real-time rendering are no longer experiments but production staples.
  2. Cultural Authenticity Wins: Content rooted in local traditions is gaining global attention.
  3. Independent Creators on the Rise: Small teams are now making a global mark through streaming platforms.
  4. Collaboration Over Competition: Studios are increasingly co-producing, sharing technology, and partnering across borders.

Reflections from Gwangju

The city of Gwangju itself added depth to the experience. Known for its cultural vibrancy, it felt like a natural host for ACE Fair. Outside the exhibition halls, the art museums, traditional Korean food, and creative neighborhoods reflected the same spirit of innovation and culture that the fair embodied.

For me and Vijay, it was not just about industry insights but also about immersing ourselves in a city that breathes creativity.

Opportunities for Indian Collaboration

The key takeaway from ACE Fair 2025 is that India has a stronger role to play in the global creative economy. With:

  • World-class 3D animation expertise
  • Competitive production pipelines
  • A growing ecosystem of independent and studio talent

Indian creators are well-positioned to collaborate with Southeast Asia, Korea, and the West. The fair reinforced the idea that India can go beyond outsourcing and lead global co-productions, while also closing outsourcing and co-production deals that accelerate partnerships.

Conclusion

ACE Fair 2025 in Gwangju was a celebration of creativity, technology, and collaboration. From meeting designers and artists across continents to learning how Southeast Asia is reshaping storytelling, and from experiencing the hospitality of Gwangju to realizing the rising power of Indian animation, the visit was a truly rewarding journey.

As Krishna and Vijay, we are proud to have been part of this global creative exchange. The connections we built, the insights we gathered, and the discussions on 3D co-productions, 3D outsourcing, and 2D outsourcing will help us contribute to the future of cross-border storytelling.

In a world where creativity knows no boundaries, ACE Fair reaffirmed that Indian and global creators alike can come together to shape stories that resonate everywhere—while also closing deals that turn opportunities into lasting collaborations.
